Digitala Sverige
Good to know
-
Phishing is an attempt to get your information.
-
Fake web addresses can look like real addresses with one small change.
-
Polisen (the Swedish Police) recommends unique passwords for important services.
-
Be suspicious when an email or text message asks for sensitive details via a link.
Three steps to get started
-
Stop and think when an unexpected message demands codes or bank details.
-
Contact the sender using contact details you have checked yourself.
-
Keep messages and other evidence if you suspect you have been targeted.
A practical checklist to try. It does not add any legal requirements.
Important distinctions
A logo does not prove that the sender is genuine. This gives basic protection, not a guarantee against all attacks.
Practice question
Show the right answer and explanation
A. Check the sender using contact details you checked yourself.
People who try to steal your details can copy real senders and links.

Electronic IDs and BankID
Which electronic IDs you can get, what you need and how to start.
Electronic IDs and BankID. Which electronic IDs you can get, what you need and how to start. The essentials
- An e-ID shows who you are when you sign in or sign something online.
- BankID requires a Swedish personal identity number and an account at a bank that issues BankID.
- Freja+ can use a verified coordination number and a valid ID document.
- Not every e-ID works with every service. Check which ones the service accepts.
Key words
- e-legitimation
- A digital identity that shows who you are when you sign in or sign something.
- personnummer
- An identity number for someone registered as living in Sweden.
- samordningsnummer
- A number that can identify you if you are not registered as living in Sweden.
- tjänsteleverantör
- A public authority or other organisation that offers an online service.
- utgivare
- The organisation that issues your e-ID.
After this module, you can…
- Compare the requirements for different e-IDs.
- Check whether a service accepts your e-ID.
Example: choosing an e-ID
Anna wants to sign in to a public authority service. She checks which e-IDs it accepts and compares the requirements before she chooses one.
What is an electronic ID?
An electronic ID (e-ID) is a digital ID document. You use it to show who you are when you sign in to public authorities, banks and healthcare services. You also use it to sign documents online.
An e-ID is as personal as your passport or ID card. You are responsible for everything it is used for.
Three electronic IDs you can get
There are three established electronic IDs for private individuals. Digg (the Swedish Agency for Digital Government) has checked and approved all three.
- BankID – issued by the banks. It comes as an app on your phone, on a card that needs a card reader, or as a program on your computer.
- Freja+ – issued by Freja eID Group AB. It comes as an app on your phone.
- AB Svenska Pass – is on the ID card from Skatteverket. You need a separate card reader.
Tip: From 1 January 2026, state authorities must offer login with both BankID and Freja+, unless they have special reasons not to.
You need this for BankID
Sometimes you need to scan your Swedish passport or national ID card with your phone. This can happen when you get BankID remotely, for example. Some banks accept ID documents from other countries. If you do not have such an ID document, contact your bank.
- You must have a Swedish personal number.
- You must be a customer of a bank that issues BankID.
- You must have proved your identity to the bank with an approved ID document.
- Each bank sets its own age limit. The most common limits are 13 or 18 years. If you are under 18, you need permission from a parent or guardian.
- Are you under 18? Read more in the module about money when you are under 18, in the Personal finance area. There is also help there when your parents are not in Sweden.
You need this for Freja+ and AB Svenska Pass
- Freja+: a Swedish personal number or a proven coordination number, a valid ID document, and that you have not lived abroad for more than three years.
- Freja+: you must be at least 13 years old, or have permission from a parent or guardian.
- AB Svenska Pass: you must be registered in Sweden, be at least 13 years old, and be able to prove your identity. Skatteverket charges a fee.
Tip: If you have a coordination number but no personal number, Freja+ may be an option. Read the terms at Freja eID before you start.
How to get started
How to do it
- Choose an e-ID based on what you have: a personal number, a bank account, a coordination number, or an ID card.
- BankID: log in to your online bank, or contact your bank and follow its instructions.
- Freja+: download the app, register with an approved ID document, and take an ID photo. Then scan your passport, or visit a connected ATG agent [a partner shop] to reach the plus level.
- AB Svenska Pass: apply for the Skatteverket ID card and collect the card at a service office.
- Choose a security code that no one else can guess. Never tell it to anyone.
Important: Digg does not issue e-IDs. If you need help with yours, contact the company that issued it: your bank, Freja eID or Skatteverket.
New state e-ID
Digg has approved a state e-ID called Sverige-id. It is planned to be available in December 2026. It will be linked to the national ID card. You will apply for it at Polisen (the Swedish Police).

Does every e-ID work with every service?
No. The organisation that offers a service chooses which e-IDs it accepts. Your e-ID may work with one service but not another.
- Check which sign-in methods the service offers before you start.
- From 1 January 2026, public authorities must offer BankID and Freja+ unless they have special reasons not to.
- Digg has approved the e-IDs, but does not issue them.
How do you keep your e-ID safe?
You are responsible for everything done with your e-ID. Do not use it when someone calls and asks you to sign in.
- Never tell anyone your security code or let someone else sign in for you.
- If you think someone has your e-ID or code, contact the issuer and block it right away.
- Contact your bank and report it to the police if you think someone has used your e-ID.
