Goal: understand the basics and find the right official help route.

Good to know
-
Arbetsförmedlingen (the Swedish Public Employment Service) recommends changing your CV to fit each job.
-
Education, experience and contact details are common headings.
-
Languages, computer skills and experience from associations can be relevant.
-
The Public Employment Service offers free CV templates.
Three steps to get started
-
Read the job ad and mark the skills asked for.
-
Give clear examples from your experience that show these skills.
-
Check contact details, spelling and that the file can be opened.
A practical checklist to try. It does not add any legal requirements.
Important distinctions
The same CV does not suit every job. A good CV does not guarantee a job. This introduction does not decide your right to work or your contract terms.
Practice question
Show the right answer and explanation
A. Those that are relevant to the job.
Adapting shows why your experience fits the job.
This question is practice, not a test. Answers are not saved.

Looking for work and checking job ads
Where you find open jobs, how to make yourself visible to employers, and what to check before you accept a job.
Looking for work and checking job ads. Where you find open jobs, how to make yourself visible to employers, and what to check before you accept a job.The essentials
- Look for work in several ways, such as Platsbanken, your network and spontaneous applications.
- A skills profile on Arbetsförmedlingen My pages can help employers find you.
- Check who the employer is, the type of job and the last day to apply.
- Never pay to get a job or share bank details or BankID codes.
- Register with Arbetsförmedlingen on your first day without a job.
Key words
- spontanansökan
- A job application you send even when the employer has not advertised a vacancy.
- kompetensprofil
- Details about your experience and skills that employers can search for.
- rekryteringsträff
- A meeting where employers meet people who are looking for work.
- anställningsform
- The type of employment, such as permanent or temporary.
- provanställning
- An employment with a probation period of up to six months.
After this module, you can…
- Choose several ways to look for work.
- Check a job ad before you apply or accept an offer.
Example: look for work in several ways
Amira searches Platsbanken and tells former colleagues she is looking for work. Before applying, she checks the employer, the type of job and the last day to apply.
Where are the jobs?
Platsbanken on arbetsformedlingen.se is the largest list of open jobs in Sweden. But many jobs are filled in other ways. So it pays to use several routes at the same time.
- Platsbanken: search by job, place and type of employment.
- Add a skills profile to your account so employers looking for staff can find you.
- Spontaneous application: send your CV and letter to an employer, even if they have not advertised a job.
- Staffing and recruitment companies: register your CV, so they can find you for their assignments.
- Network: tell neighbours, friends and former colleagues that you are looking for work.
- Job fairs and recruitment events: employers are there to meet new staff.
If you are already unemployed
Register with Arbetsförmedlingen on your first day without a job. This affects, among other things, your right to money from the unemployment insurance fund and the income used to calculate your sickness benefit. Read more in the module about unemployment and support.

When do employers need extra staff?
Some businesses need extra staff at the same times every year. For example, theme parks in summer, and snow clearing, warehouses and Christmas buffets in winter. It is a good idea to make your own yearly calendar, and to contact employers well before the busy season.
- In summer, theme parks, kiosks, tourism and parks may need extra staff.
- In winter, snow clearing, ski resorts, warehouses and Christmas buffets may need extra staff.
- Make a yearly calendar and contact employers before their busy season.
Tip: Follow employers you are interested in on social media. Many post open jobs there first.
Check the ad before you apply
- Does it say who the employer is? Look up the company and check that it is real.
- Does it say what type of employment the job has, for example permanent or temporary?
- Does it say when you must apply by? Always send your application before the last day.
- Be careful if someone asks you for money, or asks for your bank details or BankID login so that you can get the job.
Important: You should never work for free. Arbetsförmedlingen warns about employers who let people ”try out” work without pay and wrongly call it a trial employment. You must get pay even when you work on a trial.
