To get electricity at home, you need two contracts: a grid contract and an electricity supply contract.
- You sign the grid contract with the company that owns the grid where you live. There is only one grid owner in each area, so you cannot choose that company.
- The grid owner builds and runs the grid. It makes sure the electricity gets to your home.
- The electricity supply contract covers the electricity you buy. There you can choose yourself from over 150 electricity suppliers.
- You can choose, for example, between a variable price and a fixed price.
One bill or two?
If the grid company and the electricity supplier are in the same group, you often get one shared bill. If not, you get two bills.
Is electricity included in the rent?
In some homes, electricity is included in the rent or is measured together for the whole building. Read your rental agreement or ask the landlord before you sign a contract of your own.
